Bar Glassware

Below is a list of bar glassware and the uses for each one. While you can use virtually any glass, why not use a glass that’s designed for the drink you’re making.

A beer mug/tankard is a large cylinder glass with a handle. They are usually made of silver, pewter or glass. Some may have a hinged lid.

Cordial Glass

Cordial glasses are typically used for after dinner drinks. They are a small stemmed glass.

Goblets are made of thick glass and generally used for water and teas.

Margarita glasses are usually made of thick glass and usually used for blended fruit margaritas.


Martini Glass

Martini glasses are stemmed glasses with an inverted cone shaped bowl, sometimes called a cocktail glass. Martini glasses are usually used to serve Martini’s (French Martini, Vodka Martini, Espresso Martini, Appletini), Manhattan, Brandy Alexander, Pisco Sour, Negroni, Cosmopolitan, Gimlet, and the Grasshopper.

Old Fashioned Glass

Old fashioned glasses, are typically short, wide brimmed and have a thick base (which makes it easier to muddle in). It may also be called a rocks glass or lowball glass. Commonly used for whiskey on the rocks (with ice). They can range between 6 and 10 fl oz.

Pilsner glasses are used for different types of light beers and pale lagers. They are tall, tapered slim glass that’s usually smaller than a pint glass.

Shot glasses are used for spirits that are consumed quickly, in one shot. They are also known as a shooter, and generally hold 1 to 1 1/2 fl oz.
